The Girls Of Leather

Here is a GREAT news/info article i found on www.leatherati.com ….. i am excited to share this …..
There are many boys of Leather groups that have existed for quite some years now, including those from Denver,D.C., Phoenix, Jersey, New York, Windy City, South Florida, San Francisco , Keystone, Houston, Central Texas, Kansas City (rebuilding) and the newest Albuquerque founded by boy Leon! They boast of brotherhood, the Leather boy heart and amazing events put on by and volunteered for by these groups.
Then there is the sisterhood; there seems to be a passionate interest in the Leather Women’s community for more unity and closer bond sharing. There are many contests, a few conferences, and women’s groups that are very much catered to Leatherwomen including: Desire, Women’s International Leather Fest, International Ms Leather (IMsL), Bound By Desire, F.I.S.T and Exiles to name a few. The flames of diversity amongst Leatherwomen in the community are bold, very strong and grow bigger as the years flicker by.
One integral part of the Women’s Leather community is the now quickly blooming Leathergirl movement. What helped with the beginnings of it was the Leather girl pride flag (pictured left), created by Sheryl D, Mama’s Faery girl. The first unveiling was at the Ms San Diego Leather Contest in November of 2003 and shortly after again at American Brotherhood Weekend in April 2004. However, something deeper was needed than just wearing a patch, buying pins, sewing flags (as first done by girl nancy) or helping fundraise for Sheryl to travel, lecture and hold more girl and girl/boy parties.
We have watched as Leatherwomen have put their heads together to ponder how more connections and bonds can be created and what needs of the community have not yet been met. Now we see girls of Leather groups popping up in large cities throughout the Leather Community. One such game-changer of the recent girls of Leather restart is Leland Carina who founded the current San Francisco girls of Leather based on a previous iteration of the same group. Part of their mission is to “provide camaraderie and a safe space to any individual who identifies as a Leathergirl.” The San Francisco girls of Leather are very active in their local communities offering their volunteer services and support, other organizations’ events and fundraisers frequently. Leland has just stepped down as President to focus on strengthening National connections for the group; she is confident the club is poised and ready to flourish under new leadership.
“I wanted to create a safe space for girls in our community. We need allies and peers,” replied Leland as she remembers the reasons why she reformed the San Francisco girls of Leather, “I feel like this is especially important for new girls, they need to have a safe place to land in our complicated community.”
Kaitlin Beefy, a passionate, queer, Leatherwoman of many gifts and talents, is excited about starting the Dallas chapter of girls of Leather.
“The idea of a girls of Leather group for Dallas had been floating around for a few months, and after this past South Plains Leather Fest (SPLF) in March I talked with a very lovely woman from the Seattle chapter and she gave me that last little push I needed to really get this started,” Kaitlin says.
Kaitlin continues, “Here in Dallas, the girl presence was definitely visible, but we really didn’t have a place that we could join together and service our community as one. I think us girls will be able to do great things as a group. I am so thrilled that the girl movement is taking off and gaining momentum and we really have a chance to shine.”
The Arizona girls of Leather group boast about 10 members and have been existence in some form since 2005. slave alena girl, who is treasurer, says they hope to do more in connection with other groups to get the word out about their activities. She was excited to attend the recent SPLF conference, especially when she ran into some fellow Leathergirls there as well.
She said in an email, “I got to spend some time with angel from the SFgoL, and saw pink compete for International Master/slave as well. So wonderful to see a fellow girl as a titleholder (pink is Northwest slave 2011) – and she did a fantastic job.”
You can read more about Arizona girls of Leather and what they’ve been up to here.
The Seattle girls of Leather group have also been richly active. President Candace remarks,
“We also did our first Leathergirl Invasion at The Wildrose. We had a blast doing a train through the bar and eliciting laughter from the other patrons. Every month, SgoL will be “invading” some bar, restaurant, or event in the area, is bringing our special brand of fun to the community.”
With interest also in Georgia and in Houston, it seems as if there is a stirring of energetic community service and renewed unity and strength amongst Leathergirls across the nation. We at Leatherati look forward to seeing how things progress with each group and will check in on them later!

Earth Hour
March 26 , 2011
8-9 pm
Have you heard of Earth Hour? It is the largest mobilization of people in human history, with 700 million people participating in 2010. ”It started in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a symbolic stand against climate change. Only a year later Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement, with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the CN Tower in Toronto, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour. In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative. In March 2010, a record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.”
Earth Hour is about raising awareness of energy conservation and sustainable practices!

The Human Rights Campaign
Posted by: | CommentsTo all my friends and supporters … a month or so ago i joined The Human Rights Campaign …. Please consider joining too … we need to be aware and support all our friends and family who have to FIGHT just for equality !!
Here is an update from August 4 … a historical day … California Supreme Court rules that banning gay marriage is UNCONSTITUTIONAL … thats a step in the right direction !

August 4 2010 ~
we have moved a step closer to full equality!!
After the first-ever federal trial on whether it’s legal to ban same-sex couples from marrying, the district court ruled that Proposition 8 violated the U.S. Constitution.
This court’s ruling will undoubtedly be appealed, so our struggle is far from over. But it was a tremendous step forward for equality and a critical win.
The two courageous couples who acted as plaintiffs in this suit opened up their lives to months of public scrutiny and helped bring about this victory, fighting alongside the legal team of Ted Olson, David Boies and the American Foundation for Equal Rights. They deserve our gratitude. Will you take a moment to thank them?
Send a quick note of thanks and support – and tell your friends to do the same.
Here is another way to get involved. Today, people in cities across the country will be gathering for peaceful “Day of Decision” rallies to take advantage of this moment and show the broad support for marriage equality among both LGBT and straight Americans. Find out if there’s a rally near you.
This case was a landmark. Over the course of the months-long trial, the plaintiffs introduced substantial testimony and evidence to finally show that Prop. 8 had discriminatory motivations – and that same-sex couples are entitled to equal rights. Because this is a district court decision and will most likely be appealed, it may not have an immediate effect on marriage bans in California or any other states. Nonetheless, it’s a significant moment. It’s a vindication of the grassroots work we’ve done across the country to give every loving couple the same rights – and a shot of momentum to continue that work.
The trial also showed that the other side remains as ferocious as ever. Not content with simply defending Prop. 8, they tried to persuade the judge to stop California state agencies from recognizing the marriages of the 18,000 same-sex couples who tied the knot in the months before Prop. 8 passed.
So without question, the forces of bigotry will appeal this ruling. After the Court of Appeals, this case could very well end up before the highest court in the land – just another reason we must fight to get fair-minded judges like Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court.
We know we will prevail in the end. Because we are on the right side of history and the law. Because public opinion is increasingly in our favor. Because even conservatives like Ted Olson – who argued for the George W. Bush side in Bush v. Gore – share a passion for this cause.
But it will take more sacrifice and more grueling hard work. It will take more people like you standing up for what you believe – and more heroes like the plaintiffs in this case refusing to accept second-class status.
Please send a quick note thanking these couples. Then spread the word.
Thanks for your continued support on this defining issue.
Sincerely,
Joe Solmonese

Say goodbye to DvntDom.com.. & Hello to MasterDvnt.com*
Posted by: | CommentsGreetings Friends,
I am pleased to announce..
Say goodbye to DvntDom.com… http://MasterDvnt.com is up & running!
As most of you know, I was previously known by the name Dvnt Dom. Then around 2006, I moved on from the name Dvnt Dom & became known as Master Dvnt.
Though many years have passed, there are some that still refer to me as Dvnt Dom so I hope now to change that once & for all.
My website has been long overdue for a complete overhaul but due to a continuous flow of other projects & work, combined with much effort spent on the focus on internal growth, the overhaul has been long neglected. Following the successful completion of My beloved slave maramoon & I’s Blog website, http://slaveBound.com . I have now finally began the 1st faze of evolution of my Pro website; DvntDom.com, into what has now officially been changed to http://MasterDvnt.com !
The changes that have been made are:
-Site url moved from DvntDom.com to MasterDvnt.com
-New “Master Dvnt” Header
-Footer changed
-New updated homepage portrait foto
Though the site is now no longer known as DvntDom.com, the url will still remain an active link & any web links directed to DvntDom.com will automatically forward to MasterDvnt.com.
This is the 1st faze of a complete redevelopment of the website & the current new changes are meant to be a transitional makeover to make way for the more intense process of the reorientation the entire site. I will take this opportunity to apologize for the outdated content & the ancient foto gallery. Currently the foto gallery which is many years old is still up & due to the fact that the gallery does not rightly reflect the magnitude of my work today, I may decide to pull it down completely before it is replaced with a new & updated gallery.
As most of you know, I am of the breed that simultaneously exists as a Pro-Dom, fetish performer & also respected as Master in the Lifestyle as well. The re-orientation of http://MasterDvnt.com will be reflective of this by shifting from its current focus of being primarily a Pro site to being more broad based, equally balanced between both realms of Pro & Lifestyle. Also as many of you know, I have been seriously entrenched in the path of Zen Buddhism for several years now & the site will obviously reflect this spiritual orientation & approach to BDSM & Power Exchange as well.
Some projected changes to the website will be..
-New site design & reorientation
-Articles by Master Dvnt section
-Up to date & improved foto gallery
-Video gallery
- Interactive Blog section
-up-to-date events & performance section
-Other goodies
If you want to keep up to date, you can sign up for updates on all House DVNT websites, which currently include MasterDvnt.com & slaveBound.com at – http://twitter.com/housedvnt
Thanx all & I hope these site improvements to be beneficial to all & this beloved community that I love so much!
With Mind, Body & Heart… may we each walk freely,
-Master Dvnt
It’s here! The March 12 Compassion and Health Campaign
Posted by: | Comments
Dear F/friends,
There is a book, written by Dr. Will Tuttle, called The World Peace Diet. It helps you understand the power of food, and the cultural mentality reinforced by our practice of food, for many levels of healing-–physical, psychological, cultural, ecological, and spiritual.
Many people have called it a revelation, and one of the most important books of the 21st century.
Today, Friday, March 12, Dr. Tuttle is coordinating a special offer for this critically-acclaimed book called “The March 12 World Peace Diet Compassion and Health Campaign.” It is my recommendation that you get a copy of The World Peace Diet today.
Many generous and caring sponsors have donated excellent bonus gifts and prizes to anyone who buys The World Peace Diet (today only).
There are downloadable audio books, recipes, music, e-books, discount coupons and the chance to enter drawings for some terrific prizes! There are over 50 gifts and prizes, all told, and anyone who buys the book on March 12 (only) is eligible to receive them. Here’s the link to this special campaign: http://worldpeacediet.org
You can help strengthen the forces of health, truth, transparency, sustainability, and peace by buying a copy of The World Peace Diet today (for yourself or to give to a library or friend). It’s a great way to help animals, the Earth, hungry people, and all of us, and spread the message we believe in.
This is the page to go to – http://worldpeacediet.org – everything is explained there.

Sincerely,
maramuuuun
P.S. – You are more than welcome to share this special offer with your friends and colleagues, and encourage them to do the same. This is not an exclusive offer. The more of us who participate, the better it will be for everyone. This is a one-day offer–March 12 only. Thanks.

Kinky is NOT a Diagnosis!

Kinky is NOT a Diagnosis
NCSF is proud to announce that 3,241 people have signed the DSM Revision Petition from June 2008 to December 2009. The petition is now closed and has been sent to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the members of the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Work Group for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V). Thanks goes out to everyone who participated in this historic effort!
The diagnoses in the DSM-TR-IV subject people who practice BDSM, fetishes and cross-dressing to bias, discrimination and social sanctions without any scientific basis. NCSF often sees individuals who suffer distress and impairment in their social and occupational lives (ie. interpersonal difficulties) because their desires conflict with current societal standards. These standards stem in a large part from the DSM. itself: pathologizing unusual sexual interests has led to more discrimination and discouraged individuals from seeking treatment for physical and mental health problems. This codification of “cultural aversion” was the same reason that ego-dystonic homosexuality was included in the DSM, and then removed when it was finally recognized as such by the APA.
Some of the comments made on the petition include:
#604: “BDSM is no more an illness or dysfunction than boxing, skydiving or participating in any extreme sport.”
#1680: “I am all for removing these biases from legitimate psychiatry. It has ruined a friend of mine as for 8 years he has felt ashamed, depressed and self destructive because some “therapist” diagnosed him as sexually deviant and egodystonic and told him to repress his urges.”
#1902: “Psychiatry should serve human wellness, not police human diversity.”
#2224: “Historically, diagnoses of insanity have been used to marginalize those with unusual sexual preferences. This has to stop.”
#2566: “I just had an acquaintance lose custody of her child to her now-vengeful ex due to “kink” and a bad judge. It’s time to take more bias out of the DSM.”
“The politicization of sexuality is common in this country,” says Leigha Fleming, Board Chair of NCSF. “There is no basis in scientific fact for the categorization of BDSM and affiliated behaviors as inherently pathological or unhealthy. Social conservatives shouldn’t be allowed to carry their agenda into the DSM. It wasn’t appropriate when homosexuality was classified as a disorder by the APA and it’s not correct now for the DSM to classify consensual adult sexual expression like BDSM, cross dressing, etc. as disorder. The DSM was never meant to be a political weapon used to marginalize sexual minorities. The overwhelming response by our constituents necessitates our involvement in this critical issue.”

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–
The APA Paraphilias Subworkgroup Agrees:
Kinky is NOT a Diagnosis
In the new proposals for the DSM-V, alternative sexual behavior has been depathologized. The American Psychiatric Association’s Paraphilias Subworkgroup’s DSM revisions acknowledge that you can be a fetishist, transvestite, sexual sadist or sexual masochist without having a mental disorder.
NCSF has worked very hard with its DSM Revision Project to make sure these changes take place, and will continue to strongly advocate for clear language of what exactly constitutes a mental disorder. Susan Wright liaisoned with the work group and supplied data that NCSF has gathered about the real-world discrimination and persecution that takes place against BDSM-fetish practitioners because of the DSM-IV-TR. The DSM Revision Petition was also extremely useful in generating comment from community members and mental health professionals urging that the current diagnoses be changed.
To see the proposed changes, go to:
http://www.dsm5.org/ProposedRevisions/Pages/SexualandGenderIdentityDisorders.aspx
Read the “Rationale” section under each diagnosis to see their thinking on the paraphilias. The work group makes it clear that “non-normative” sexual behavior is practiced by healthy people:
“The first broad change follows from our consensus that paraphilias are not ipso facto psychiatric disorders. We are proposing that the DSM-V make a distinction between paraphilias and paraphilic disorders. A paraphilia by itself would not automatically justify or require psychiatric intervention. A paraphilic disorder is a paraphilia that causes distress or impairment to the individual or harm to others. One would ascertain a paraphilia (according to the nature of the urges, fantasies, or behaviors) but diagnose a paraphilic disorder (on the basis of distress and impairment). In this conception, having a paraphilia would be a necessary but not a sufficient condition for having a paraphilic disorder.”
“These revisions will affect everything-child custody, job discrimination battles, and even help change the way society views us,” says Leigha Fleming, Chairperson and Director of Incident Response. “I think of all the people over the years who have had the DSM used as a tool of discrimination and punishment, and I’m proud of NCSF for continuing the fight to change it. This is the first step towards decriminalization of BDSM, which NCSF is pursuing with our Consent Counts project.”
The Paraphilias Subworkgroup is now reconsidering what constitutes “clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning” when determining a mental disorder. The DSM must make it clear that people do suffer distress and impairment because of the societal stigma against alternative sex, but that doesn’t mean they are suffering distress that is generated internally.
As part of the development process, the preliminary draft revisions to the current diagnostic criteria for psychiatric diagnoses are now available for public review and comment until April. Personal comments about discrimination and persecution are welcome additions to this commentary to continue to urge the work group to differentiate between sexual minorities and sex offenders.
Just as Norway recently joined Sweden and Denmark in removing consensual paraphilias entirely, NCSF continues to urge the complete removal of these paraphilias from the DSM. However like the incremental removal of homosexuality (to egodystonic homosexuality and then finally taken out in 1987) this is an important step for the BDSM-leather-fetish community.
NCSF needs your support to continue important projects like the DSM Revision Project that directly impact peoples’ lives. Please join NCSF to show solidarity! We do so much for very little money, and we need your help.
Please donate to NCSF now!
